[Xinhua News Agency] Returning College Students Provide Free Family Photography Services for Villagers

Returning college students in Hengyang County actively participated in the volunteer service activities of civilization practice during the winter vacation. They went door-to-door in the villages, offering to take family photos for the villagers for free. They also cared for the elderly who lived alone and the left-behind children, helped the epidemic prevention and control work, and contributed their youthful strength to the development of their hometown.

The student volunteers visited Huang Yulian, a villager in Shenhuang Village of Goulou Township, early in the morning. Carrying cameras, tripods and props, the students worked together to adjust the equipment while checking the attire and setting the scenes for the elderly. Everyone enjoyed what they were doing. Knowing that the volunteers were coming to take pictures of them, Huang Yulian and her husband were wearing new clothes that their daughter-in-law had just bought for them.

64-year-old Huang Yulian has a son working in Zhuhai, Guangdong Province. Due to the COVID-19 epidemic, he has not been able to come home for the Chinese New Year for three consecutive years. Huang Yulian and her husband live with their grandson. It was their first family photo, in which they had especially big smiled. The senior couple was very excited to learn that the volunteers would not only develop and retouch the photos for them, but also send electronic copies to their son who is far away from home.

During the winter vacation, 89 college student volunteers returned to Goulou Township to contribute their youthful strength to the development of their hometown. They participated in volunteer service activities such as "Taking Pictures of Happy Times," caring for the left-behind children, and epidemic prevention and control. Qu Aoqiang is a junior student of HUTB. He came home for winter vacation and learned that there was a volunteer team in the village. He actively signed up for it. With his photography expertise, Qu Aoqiang and his friends, carrying their equipment, traveled on the country roads every day and went door-to-door to offer family photography services for the villagers and record the happy moments in their lives.

Hengyang County is a national pilot county of the construction of the New Era Civilization Practice Centers. During the last summer vacation, a total of 1,546 returning college students joined the volunteer teams in the communities and villages of Hengyang County. They put their professional knowledge into social practice, served their hometown and society, demonstrated the sense of responsibility of contemporary college students, and brought new hopes for rural revitalization.
